The Round Table on Responsible Soy Association (RTRS) is a global multi-stakeholder organization created in 2006 in Switzerland with more than 160 international members of the soy value chain.
The objectives are to promote the growth on production, trade, and use of responsible soy through co-operation with actors in and relevant to the soy value chain from production to consumption, including producers, suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, financial institutions, civil society organizations and other relevant actors, through:
- A global platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue on responsible soy.
- The development, implementation and verification of a global certification standard.
The RTRS Standard for Responsible Soy Production is the result of a multi-stakeholder development process, which involved representatives from the three RTRS membership constituencies (Producers; Industry Trade and Finance and Civil Society), and included several public consultation periods.
It is applicable on a worldwide level that assures soy is produced in environmentally-correct, socially-appropriate and economically-viable process, zero deforestation and zero conversion.
The five principles of the RTRS Standard for Responsible Soy Production are:
Principle 1: Legal Compliance and Good Business Practices
Principle 2: Responsible Labour Conditions
Principle 3: Responsible Community Relations
Principle 4: Environmental Responsibility
Principle 5: Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
